I kept this photograph because it gives me a clean baseline: the whole palm, its crown, its exposed trunk, and enough of the property to identify the setting later.
It is not a diagnosis and it does not show every part of the palm. It does show how the palm looked at one known point in time. If the crown changes, a future photograph from roughly the same position will be more useful than memory.
Keep the first photograph simple
Get the whole palm and enough of the surroundings to find the same view again. Add closer crown and trunk photographs when there is a concern. The value comes from being able to compare the same palm over time.
